Marilyn A. Olsen, Artist
An Artist’s work is often a collage of life’s memories and experiences. Whether it be the blessings of family, the warm, vibrant flavors of America’s Southwest, the energy of New York City, the simple intricacies of nature, the beauty of the arts or a battle against Multiple Sclerosis - each can be experienced in the work of Marilyn A. Olsen.
With a body of work including murals at Tower 570 in New York City, contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society calendar, solo and group exhibitions, and works in private collections across the United States, Marilyn is delighted with the opportunity to share her work with diverse audiences. When she is not painting, drawing or sculpting, Marilyn enjoys volunteering her time educating young artists through classes and workshops.
A native of New York City, Marilyn attended the School of Visual Arts and completed a Bachelors degree from Pace University and a Masters degree from the City University of New York. Ms. Olsen developed a love for the Southwest as a child. Her grandmother lived in Arizona and encouraged Marilyn’s enthusiasm for sketching the beautiful form of the native flora, fauna and landscape.
Marilyn is currently inspired by the colors of the rural Litchfield Hills in Connecticut where she resides with her husband Ed, dog Jazzy and cat Whiskers.
About the Artist
“Painting is the language I use to communicate my thoughts and feelings to the viewer. I use color, form and composition to convey feelings ranging from excitement to serenity.
I am not trying to produce an accurate replica of the scene or subject I am painting, but rather spark in the observer the emotions I felt when I saw or thought about the place or subject.
My goal is to deeply touch the viewer and perhaps awaken an emotion of long ago. I invite you to share in a bit of my world and view my work on this site or at one of my shows.”
